Will Oscar Be Calling Michael's Name Again Next Year?

It could be a case of histroy repeating itself come award season next year, as the early buzz from Canne this year is that Michael Douglas is back to perfecting his character Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street 2:Money Never Sleeps." In the 80's, Wall Street was a huge success for it's star Michael Douglas (who picked up the best actor award at the Oscars for his portrayal) as well as Oliver Stone (the craziest filmmaker on the planet, don't believe me check out Natural Born Killers). It brought the attention of Wall Street and the way money will always rule our lives with the phrase "Greed is Good" becoming a motto for many young people. However, with the fall of the economy in past years, it was only a matter of time that Oliver would understand now was the perfect time to use what was going on and use this to his advantage by helming a sequel that would draw upon these factors. In Wall Street 2, Gordon has been released from jail, due to past misfortunes (watch Wall Street to find out why, I'm not going to spoil it for you) and hooks up with a new up in comer in the stock market game played by the excellent Shia Lebouf (either this kid is talented, or his agent knows how to select the best scripts for him as all his movies have been huge box office successes). However, what makes this also interesting is it will also star Carey Mulligan (who is fantastic in An Education, I can't recommended that movie highly enough) as Gordon's daughter who is dating Shia's character but wants nothing to do with her father, which will definitely showcase some tense moments between the three brillant actors. Throw in legend Susan Sarandon, Oscar nominee Frank Langella, the highly underrated Josh Brolin (once again watch No Country For Old Men and witness his talent) and even an old associate from Wall Street played by Charlie Sheen (I'm not going to tell you why he is in it, but his relationship with Gekko is very interesting). The cast is top notch, the script will have a message of today's financial crisis and Michael is proving once again that he can pull off his creepy character. This (if it happens) will be the first time ever that an actor has won an award for playing the same character twice. I hope he does, as well as being history in the making, I feel when Michael Douglas works his magic on screen he truely is a movie star. I for one will be checking this out, as all the factors are lining up for this reviewer to see it. I for won want to know why Money Never Sleeps in the world of Wall Street. Just a quick shout out to Michael who is battling cancer at the moment. Hope everything goes well, and we see you in the coming awards season. Wall Street 2 comes out on September 23 (Australia).
