Is Anyone Going To Turn Up For This One?
There is a quote in the Simpsons where Homer is caught in the third dimension when he trying to describe where he is and asks the rest of the cast if they have ever seen the movie, "TRON." No one says yes. It is a funny line which actually rings true. Tron was hyped up to be the biggest movie Disney had ever produced with the state of the art special effects for its time (come on it was 1982). However it failed to deliver. Tron was a huge financial mess with no one showing up making it a box office flop. The game of the same name did well though with many fans interested in playing the game just not wanting to watch the movie. The movie followed Jeff Bridges (who to me always talks like he is a stoner) who played Kevin Flynn who was transported into his own video game by a machine that he had invented. It is up to him to escape by actually being in the games that he wrote as a computer programmer. The movie in my mind was pretty cool especially the speed cycles. So why am I bragging about Tron when it is nearly 30 years old? Well the big news is come this December Tron has produced a sequel titled "Tron Legacy" which will hit cinemas in, you guessed it, 3D. The story will follow now Flynn's son who has been searching for his father ever since he went missing (sorry if I just ruined the ending of the first one for you but you didn't watch it 20 years ago I didn't think you would mind) who also will get sucked into the game and must rescue his father, however he will have to endure the same challenges his father faced. Sam Flynn will be played by Garrett Hedlund and Jeff Bridges will reprise his role. Also along for the ride is the excellent Martin Sheen, and Olivia Wilde from House. Throw into the mix the soundtrack completely done by Daft Punk and you have already caught my attention Disney. Watch the trailer and tell me if this movies doesn't look cool. I for one will definitely be buying my ticket to Tron Legacy hopefully for Disney's sake they can make a profit on this one, as the budget looks like it might cripple the mouses house if it does not perform. Tron Legacy opens 16 December (Australia).
