Who Scored Big At The Box Office This Winter?
Well we have been bombarded with a wide variety of movies this past frosty season. We have had superhero's, trippy dreams, secret agents, toys, orges, pirahans. vampires, 80's action stars just to name a few. But what were the hits and what were the misses of this past box office season. The winter season is seen to be the biggest with the studios forking out millions in promoting and hoping to have the biggest blockbuster of the season. But what may have worked last time didn't connect with audiences this time (I'm looking at you Carrie Bradshaw). But as I say each to their own. I feel box office does not necessarily mean hit. I mean it means hit with winning its budget back and making a profit for the studio, but sometimes movies become huge hits when released on DVD (The Shawshank Redemption and Fight Club just to name a few). Well here is the rundown of what worked. It's no surprise though that the toys were back in town with Toy Story 3 making over $400 million. Coming a way behind second was Iron Man 2 with over $315 million. Eclipse came close with $294 million and to round it out other hits over the $200 million mark include Despicable Me, Inception (love love love this movie see it now) and Shrek 4. What crossed the all important $100 million mark was The Other Guys, Grown Ups, The Last Airbender, Salt, The Expendables, and The Karate Kid. And what were the big flops of the season? Well where to start there were many that failed to connect to audiences. Sex and The City 2 didn't come anywhere near the amount the first one made. Prince of Persia, The A Team (which was brilliant what is wrong with people, see it, it rocks) Predators, Marmaduke, Cats and Dogs 2, Knight and Day, Charlie St. Cloud, Step Up 3D, Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, Piranha 3D, The Switch , Vampires Suck, Going the Distance have all become flops of the season. But hey I believe if you love the movies enjoy what you want to watch. Audiences can never be understood. If they could, studio's would be bottling it up and keeping it under lock and key. Just grab your tickets, enjoy your popcorn and sit back and enjoy the movie.
