Haven't We Witnessed Enough Pain?
I don't know about you, but maybe it is time this is one franchise that needs to be sawed down to size. I am talking about Saw and coming this October we are in for another treat of witnessing the new form of torture horror that has become so popular over the years. Okay, I must admit I thought the first one was very creepy, but looking back at it, it was not as gruesume as what followed. The first one was very smart. Written by two Aussies (who probably have to never work again thanks to the franchises never ending story) Saw was a breath of fresh air for the horror genre. No longer were we witnessing dumb teenages (who looked like they were in their 30's just saying Hollywood casting directors) being stalked and killed by a killer in a mask who seeked revenge for something that wasn't really that interesting. Saw gave us the story about Jigsaw who played games with people who he thought were coasting through life and needed to feel what it meant to be alive. We witnessed many players to his game, either survive or die, due to not self sacrificing something for their own life. What followed was sequel after sequel of what soon became just down right sick and not very interesting at all. I admit, I saw the second one because I wanted to see what was install for the next victims, but after that they all became too much (especially number three that was just down right nasty and sickly twisted) However, the last installment regained my interest. Out of all the box office success, number six didn't hit well with audiences, but when I have been chatting to people, number six stood out for a lot of them. So maybe number seven will bring something to the table, and yes the studio's have made sure that this is the last one. (The buzz was since number six did bad at the box office that this one wasn't even going ahead, but alas we are in for more fun and games). Maybe this one will have more going for it. Once again we can witness it in 3D (thank you James Cameron do you see what you have unleashed) and I guess that will bring us closer to the action than some of us may like. No information is given about the seventh one, but by the looks of the trailer it looks like we are going to witness the same old same old. For some reason, Jigsaw is back (didn't he die properly in number four) and a brand new group of people are in for the time of their lives. I know there is a huge audience who love these movies, but seriously number seven, haven't we moved on yet for what the media dub "torture horror porn." It is getting a bit old. Hopefully, something new will replace this whole new sub genre in horror and we can get back to slick smart horror like the boys brought us in the first installment. I don't know maybe this is one saw that needs to be shut down.
