The New Breed Of Hollywood Actors

In an earlier blog I decided to give my take on the up and coming actresses. I thought it was only fair to comment on the new generation of male actors who are catching the attention and setting the box office on fire with their movie hits. Sorry, but there will be no Zac Efron or Robert Patterson. Don't care if they make millions at the box office, they have one look and one acting talent only (and I use that term very loosely especially in Roberts case. Dude see a doctor for that condition the depressed look has never been popular). Also, I will not be adding Michael Cera. He may be a pin up for the geek chic movement at the moment, but he is so boring as an actor that I don't even think he is acting but just playing himself in every movie.

Jesse Eisenberg - You probably don't know the name yet, but come this October everyone will know his face, as he will take on the role of the founder of Facebook in The Social Network. The film is receiving critical acclaim and will likely be Jesse's breakout role. Jesse though has showed his comedic timing with Zombieland and Adventureland and his dramatic chops in the independant films The Squid and the Whale and Roger Dodger. Up next will be 30 Minutes or Less, but I'm sure after the Social Network is released the roles will be flowing in.

Josh Hutcherson - Josh got his break in family movies inlcuding Kicking and Screaming, RV and Zathura. The boy though started to shine through in dramatic roles in the underrated Bridge to Terabithia (badly marketed by Disney it is not at all what you think it will be about plus bring the tissues.) But it was not until this year's Sundance favourite and just released in Australia, The Kids Are Alright, that this 18 year old really proved to break out of children's films. Holding his own against the greats Julianne Moore and Annette Benning, Josh proved he could tackle the dramedy. Next up for Josh will be a remake of Red Dawn.

Chris Evans - Chris has been around for a while, but I feel he has always been underrated. Proving he could handle a smart thriller in Cellular, Chris also proved his comedic timing in Not Another Teen Movie, and could also master the action genre in The Fantastic Four and also the Losers. Finally though, it looks like Chris is going to prove if he can tackle a large blockbuster as Captain America. Not only did Chris score the highly desired part off of some of Hollywood "IT" actors but will also reprise the role in the comic book collaboration The Avengers.

Shia LaBeouf - Shia to me either has the best agent in the world, or really has the X factor. Not one of his movies over the last few years have cleared less than US$100 million at the box office. You know Shia. He is the lead in The Transformers films, Indiana's sidekick in the last Indiana Jones movie and brought on the thrills in Disturbia and Eagle Eye. But now without any special effects or action moves, Shia is going to take on the challenge proving his is more than a one character actor in Wall Street 2. Pitted against Michael Douglas will be one hard challenge but I feel Shia is definitely up to it. Next up, Shia will once again be pitted against those robots in disguise in Transformers 3.

James Franco - I don't care what anyone says about James Franco the kid will never be type cast. I myself think he has the X factor and is one of the most underrated actors of his generation. He may have got his break in Freaks and Geeks, but he really leapt to leading dramatic actor in such films as Milk (which he was totally overlooked for an Oscar in my opinion) playing Sean Penn's boyfriend and In the Valley Of Elah alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron. The guys range can go from action movies (see all the Spider-Man films) to comedy (see Pinapple Express and Date Night). But it is his new movie which finally may get the attention this young actor deserves in Danny Boyle's (Slumdog Millionaire) new film 127 Hours where James will be the only actor on screen (more on this later in my blog). To me, Franco is the best actor of his generation.

There you have it, my list of the hottest up and coming actors in Hollywood. These guys are all one's to definitely watch.
