Three years ago Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarrantino decided to do something out of the norm for their next film project. They decided to collaborate and bring back the old school 1970's genre of exploitation films. With over the top acting, bad set pieces and exploiting women these were the bad "B" movies that these boys loved. So they brought back the genre with the double feature Grindhouse. Quentin decided to direct Death Proof while Robert went and did Planet Terror. Both excellent films (highly recommended people). They decided to make the whole thing like a night out with fake previews included between the two films. However, three years later Robert decided to take one of these fake trailers and since he is Robert Rodriguez and can make any movie due to his huge successful past films Sin City, Spy Kids and Dusk Till Dawn he can pretty much do anything. One of those fake previews was for "Machete" which is now a full feature and boasts an impressive cast. Danny Trejo stars as Machete a man who was double crossed and left for dead by the men who hired him. And that has made him pissed, very pissed. What comes next is brutal with the man being a natural with knives and what they can do (get why the movie is called Machete now, clever huh?). Along for the ride is an ensemble cast including Michelle (kick your ass if you look at me wrongly) Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan (yes that Lindsay she actually got a job) Robert De Niro and even 80's action men Don Johnson and Steve Seagal are along for the ride. This movie looks crazy from the previews and I for one am a huge fan of Robert's. The man writes, produces, directs and even scores his own movies. Very talented indeed. Machete opens November 11 (Australia).
